Marcelo Gallardo has received a boost as River Plate gets ready for a crucial part of the season. Sebastián Driussi and Facundo Colidio are back in full training after recovering from minor injuries. They will be available for Saturday’s league match against Estudiantes and for the important Copa Libertadores quarterfinal first leg against Palmeiras, according to TyC Sports.
Driussi recovered from an ankle issue faced at the Club World Cup, while Colidio was healing from a hamstring strain. Both players had limited training last week but are now cleared to play.
Their return strengthens River’s attack. Together, they have contributed to 19 of the 60 goals scored this year. Driussi is set to start against Palmeiras, with 10 goals in 27 matches, while Colidio, with 9 in 34, might come on as a substitute.
The rise of Maximiliano Salas has altered Gallardo’s strategy, as the former Racing player now features in the starting lineup. Although Gallardo initially planned for Driussi and Colidio to pair up in key games, there is a chance all three could play together.
River’s coach is still waiting for the return of his international players to finalize the lineup, but having Driussi and Colidio back offers depth and confidence as they head into a crucial match against Palmeiras.
