River Plate is actively working to extend Ian Subiabre’s contract, who is seen as a promising young talent. Recent rumors about challenges in the negotiations have not deterred either the club’s management or the player’s representatives, who are optimistic about reaching an agreement.
Subiabre, a forward who started his career at Comisión de Actividades Infantiles in Comodoro Rivadavia, joined River in 2022 and quickly made a name for himself in the youth teams. The club bought 70 percent of his rights and initially signed him until 2025, later extending the deal to December 2026. Now, they aim to push this contract to 2028 and adjust his salary to reflect his growing role.
The main issue in the negotiations is the release clause. It’s currently set at $30 million, but River has proposed raising it to $100 million, a sum considered too high by Subiabre’s representatives, led by Claudio Paul Caniggia. Both parties agree on increasing the clause, but are looking for a middle ground that works for both the club and the player.
Despite the ongoing discussions, there is confidence at River. The mood is positive, and the goal is to secure Subiabre’s future at the club. Born in 2007, he made his first-team debut on January 31, 2024, against Barracas Central and has since played 19 matches, scoring one goal in March against Rosario Central. After a brief period without playtime, Marcelo Gallardo recently included him again in the Copa Libertadores, where he participated in a crucial round-of-16 match against Libertad.
