The end of an international era.
Algeria has qualified for the 2026 World Cup and will play on football’s biggest stage next summer. For the team’s star player, this tournament will be the final chapter of his international career.
Details: Riyad Mahrez recently confirmed that he will not compete in another World Cup after 2026. When asked if he could play in future editions, the Algerian captain was clear.
Quote: “Will I play in another World Cup after 2026? I’m not Ronaldo, brother… that will be my last one (laughs),” Mahrez said.
In another update, 27-year-old Luca Zidane, currently with Spanish club Granada, has switched his national allegiance. He previously played for France at youth levels but has now chosen to represent Algeria’s senior national team.
