The captain of the Algerian national team has reaffirmed the squad’s determination to represent their country with dignity on the international stage. Riyad Mahrez emphasized the importance of making Algeria proud and committing fully to their performance on the pitch.
As Algeria prepares for their opening match in the group stage against Argentina on June 17, Mahrez expressed that every match will be crucial in their pursuit of advancing to the next round. He stated, “I don’t know if there are high expectations of us. We’re here to make a mark, to make our families and our country proud. That’s the most important thing for us.”
Regarding the anticipated clash with Argentina, Mahrez noted, “It’ll be a great match; we’re treating it like any other. We’re focused on the others as well. We’ll see, but we’re ready.”
Algeria will compete in Group J, alongside Argentina, Jordan, and Austria, in a World Cup that kicks off on June 11.
