Robert Pires has expressed confidence in Arsenal‘s chances in the Champions League this season.
Arsenal recently became the first team to finish a Champions League league phase campaign with a perfect record under the current format.
The team achieved eight wins from eight matches in the league phase, following their victory over Kairat Almaty on Wednesday night.
As a result, Mikel Arteta’s team has advanced to the Round of 16, where they will learn about their knockout phase opponents next month.
Although Arsenal has never won the Champions League, they are now seen as strong contenders for the title.

Pires, who was part of the team that faced Barcelona in the 2006 final, believes Arsenal has the talent to succeed if they can manage the added pressure of being favorites.
“If you look at the standings, then yes, Arsenal are contenders,” he stated before the Champions League play-off round draw.
“Eight games and eight wins. Now it is new pressure.”
