After a challenging stretch with only one win from their last five matches, including a tough defeat to Atalanta (0-1) in the UEFA Champions League, Marseille secured a convincing victory against Brest, winning 3-0. This win temporarily puts them at the top of the standings, much to the delight of coach Roberto De Zerbi.
“It has been a very tough three weeks. We played Wednesday, then Saturday, and again Saturday and Wednesday… Each day matters and everything changes. We didn’t perform well against Angers and Atalanta. In the other matches, we played better but didn’t get the results we deserved. We lacked luck. We’re looking forward to the break before the next matches. We started in 7th place, and now we are first tonight. It’s important to remember that. I’m pleased with the way we played; I enjoyed working with quality players. We know how to play football but don’t always succeed. It was almost the same team as against Angers, but sometimes you just have an off day. The team is strong, and we need to consider the physical aspect. I want to maintain possession and play quickly, like we did today. We could have played better on Wednesday, but things can get complicated in Marseille. I spoke for an hour with my players yesterday; it’s a privilege to play here, and we can’t afford to miss any opportunities,” the Italian coach stated on BeIN Sports.
