Robinho has been transferred from Tremembé prison, known as the “celebrity prison”, to a rehabilitation center in Limeira, located in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil. The former football player, now 41, was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2022 in Italy for a gang rape committed in 2013. The Secretaria de Administração Penitenciária (SAP) confirmed that Robinho’s defense team requested this transfer. According to Brazilian media outlet O Globo, his lawyers sought a transfer to another prison in São Paulo State at the end of October, an initial request that was denied by the court, which indicated that applications should be submitted directly to the SAP.
In their request, Robinho’s defense highlighted that he had “exemplary conduct, with no disciplinary background” and described him as a “first-time offender with only one criminal conviction”. They proposed three facilities: Bragança Paulista, Rio Claro, and Limeira, with Limeira being selected. The lawyers also attempted to reduce the athlete’s sentence, referencing his professional training in electronics, radio, and television to seek a 50-day reduction in prison time; however, this request was denied.
