Morgan Rogers stated that Aston Villa is focused on winning the Europa League ahead of their match against Lille tonight.
Aston Villa travels to France for the first leg of their last-16 tie with the Ligue 1 team this evening.
Although the Villans have never won the Europa League, they are considered strong contenders this year, having had a successful campaign so far. Head coach Unai Emery has valuable experience in this tournament, having won four Europa League titles as a manager—three with Sevilla and one with Villarreal.
Rogers mentioned that despite the tight competition for Champions League qualification in the Premier League, Villa aims to prioritize both tournaments.
While he said the club would take it ‘one game at a time,’ he emphasized the goal of securing European silverware by the end of the season.
“Absolutely. We’re in every competition to win; otherwise, there’s no point in being involved,” he remarked at a pre-game press conference.
“However, we must take it one game at a time. This is a significant test and an important match for us.
“To win the tournament, you need to defeat teams like this and prove why you deserve to win, but that’s a long way off.
“We have to get through this round first, then look ahead.
“But yes, of course, we’re in every competition to win.”
