Cristian Romero was set to start for Spurs against Manchester United on Saturday, despite his recent criticism of the club’s management.
The Tottenham Hotspur captain expressed his concerns on social media after the summer transfer window closed, calling the team’s lack of depth “disgraceful.”
In the pre-match press conference before the trip to Old Trafford, head coach Thomas Frank mentioned that the issue had been “dealt with internally.”
“Apologies to all fans who follow us everywhere, who are always there and will continue to be,” he posted.
“We are responsible, and I am the first. But we will keep facing it and trying to turn the situation around, both for ourselves and for the club.”
Romero had earlier voiced his frustrations with the Spurs management following a defeat to Bournemouth last month, where he criticized them for “lies” in a now-edited Instagram post. Frank confirmed that he did not punish the centre-back.
“He is our captain and one of our important players,” Frank told TNT Sports ahead of Saturday’s match.
After missing the last two games due to injury, Micky van de Ven returned to the starting lineup to play alongside Romero, who was also a concern to play after feeling unwell in last week’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City.
