Wayne Rooney, the former English football star, criticized Liverpool head coach Arne Slot after the team lost 0-1 to Galatasaray in the Champions League.

Details: Rooney claimed that Slot’s tactics were poor, highlighting strange player positions. He pointed out that Dominik Szoboszlai was played as a right-back, while defender Jeremie Frimpong was moved up to play as a winger. Frimpong’s mistake led to a penalty, which Victor Osimhen converted for the Turkish team.

“I think Liverpool played very poorly. When they were behind, instead of changing the structure, Slot put on all the attacking players, effectively saying: ‘Sort it out yourselves.’ It could have been worse, given the number of turnovers and defensive problems,” Rooney stated on The Wayne Rooney Show on BBC.

Rooney also mentioned that last season’s success, which saw Slot lead Liverpool to the Premier League title, means the coach faces less criticism now.

“If Ruben Amorim had tried such tactics at Manchester United, he would have faced severe backlash. But Slot is more easily forgiven because of that league title,” Rooney added.
