Wayne Rooney has stated that Tottenham Hotspur is in a Premier League relegation battle due to their ongoing winless streak under Thomas Frank.
Spurs lost 2-0 to Manchester United on Saturday, marking their seventh consecutive game without a win in the Premier League. They have not secured a league victory since the beginning of the new year.
This poor run of form has intensified the pressure on Thomas Frank, as Spurs sit 15th in the standings, just six points clear of the relegation zone.
Rooney expressed that Spurs will be ‘looking over their shoulders’ amid the recent improved performances from other struggling teams, including West Ham, which has dragged Spurs into the relegation fight.
“You’d have to say they are [in a relegation battle] with their current form,” he remarked on The Wayne Rooney Show.
“West Ham have shown good form, and Nottingham Forest has been picking up points as well.
“It’s hard to deny they are in a relegation battle given their position. I think they’ll definitely be looking over their shoulders.”
He added, “I feel for Thomas Frank because he looks exhausted; it seems like he has aged ten years.”
“That’s what the Tottenham job has done to him in such a short time. I hope they continue to support him because he’s a great manager, but it will be very challenging for them.”
“And they cannot afford their captain to get sent off regularly or to be as outspoken as he was this week.”
