Real Salt Lake has extended goalkeeper Rafael Cabral’s contract through the 2027 MLS season, with an option for 2028, the team announced on Thursday, according to MLSSoccer. The 35-year-old Brazilian joined RSL before the 2025 season and has become a key player in goal.
Cabral has played in 32 matches across all competitions, achieving eight clean sheets. RSL’s chief soccer officer Kurt Schmid highlighted his contributions, stating that Cabral’s leadership and consistent performance have been important. “His composure on the ball, sharp shot-stopping, and ability to organize the defense have been vital in key moments this season,” Schmid noted.
Before his time in Utah, Cabral played for clubs including Napoli in Italy, Santos in Brazil, and Reading in England. He also represented Brazil internationally, earning three caps in 2012, including a friendly match against the United States.
By extending Cabral’s contract, Real Salt Lake ensures the stability of a goalkeeper who has demonstrated consistency and professionalism. The club sees his role as essential for future success in Major League Soccer.
