Manchester United secured a victory on Boxing Day.

A stunning goal from Patrick Dorgu led United to a 1-0 win over Newcastle in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

This marked their third win in the last nine matches, stopping the trend of two games without a win.

Currently, they sit in sixth place, just three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.

The win against Newcastle is a relief considering their recent struggles.

Manager Ruben Amorim faced criticism for previous performances.

His tactical approach has been questioned, especially his frequent use of a three-defender setup.

This time, he switched to a 4-2-3-1 formation.

The Standard reported that Amorim attributed this tactical change to media pressure and noted the absence of some players due to the African Cup of Nations.

“When I joined last season, I realized I might not have the right players for that system, but it was the start of the process.

“It’s not about your pressure [from journalists] or the fans. It’s about understanding how we want to play, and we can adjust the system.

“We will become a better team with all players back, and we won’t always play with three defenders. That’s something I’ve mentioned.

“When you [journalists] talk about changing the system constantly, I can’t do it just because of you. It would be the end for any manager.”

United’s next three matches will be against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leeds United, and Burnley, giving them a chance to rise in the Premier League standings before facing tougher games against Manchester City and Arsenal.
