Manchester United’s 2025/26 season is going better than last year, despite some ups and downs and losing points at crucial moments.
In their match against Bournemouth, United showed strong attacking skills but couldn’t manage the game, leading to a 4-4 draw.
The team has struggled to take control when it counts, but they have made notable improvements compared to last season.
Under Ruben Amorim’s first year as coach, United finished 15th, marking their worst league performance in Premier League history.
The absence of European competition seems to allow greater focus on the league, with United currently in sixth place.
Even with this progress, Sir Alex Ferguson mentioned that there’s little indication of a title race just yet.
Reflecting on Amorim and United’s competitiveness, Ferguson said, “He [Amorim] has a good attitude. It’s not straightforward. I think back to when Liverpool were at their peak.”
He added, “They were an incredible club, winning the European Cup four times, but it took them 31 years to win the league again.”
“We are in a similar situation. It could be ten years, or even eleven, due to that cycle.”
In a recent press conference before the match with Aston Villa, Ruben Amorim responded, stating, “He knows football better than I do, especially in England.”
He added, “I don’t think we will take that long to win a league title. I’m not sure who will be here, but I genuinely believe we can compete for the title in the coming years.”
Amorim clearly has faith in the team he is building, yet The Red Devils have not lifted the Premier League trophy since Ferguson left management.
This makes it difficult to determine whose view may be more accurate at this stage.
The real challenge will arise when Manchester United begins to balance European football alongside the Premier League, a scenario fans hope will come around soon.
