Egypt has advanced to the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Pharaohs won against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, 1-0, in Agadir, maintaining their perfect start to the 2025 AFCON.

Mohamed Salah, playing for Liverpool, scored the only goal from a controversial penalty in the 45th minute.

However, right back Mohamed Hany was sent off shortly afterward for a reckless challenge on Teboho Mokoena. Egypt managed to hold off South Africa’s attacks for the entire second half, despite being down to ten players.

This win secures Egypt’s place in the knockout rounds and puts them in a strong position to finish first in Group A. They are likely to face a favorable Round of 16 match against the third-placed team from Group A, Group C, or Group D.
