The Betway Premiership season in South Africa has now completed nearly a quarter of its matches.
This past weekend featured six matches during round seven. On Saturday, September 20, Magesi secured their first win of the season by beating Siwelele at home. Richards Bay achieved a surprise away victory against Stellenbosch, while Monnapule Saleng made his mark for Orbit College with a key assist that helped them draw with Marumo Gallants.
Durban City took the lead against Mamelodi, but Sundowns responded with three goals, earning another three points. Additionally, Grobler netted a late goal for Sekhukhune to defeat Golden Arrows.
On Sunday, September 21, Polokwane pulled off a comeback win at home against Chippa United, with the winning goal scored in stoppage time.
The matches between AmaZulu and Orlando Pirates, as well as TS Galaxy and Kaizer Chiefs, were postponed due to the Johannesburg clubs participating in continental tournaments.
Footem highlights the standout team from the seventh round of the South African Betway Premiership.
Goalkeeper: Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns)
Williams, the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, had a relatively quiet game against Durban City, especially after Mamelodi turned things around following an early goal. He made a crucial penalty save in the first half to help secure the win.
Full-back: Bright Ndlovu (Sekhukhune)
Ndlovu has established himself as a key player in Tinkler’s lineup. He played well in both defense and attack, contributing with one key pass, two tackles, two clearances, and one shot on target.
Centre-back: Marvin Sikhosana (Marumo Gallants)
Sikhosana has become a strong leader for Marumo this season. Although they didn’t keep a clean sheet, he performed well against Orbit College with solid tackling and interceptions, completing 11 clearances and helping secure a third consecutive unbeaten game.
Centre-back: Sbangani Zulu (Richards Bay)
After returning to the starting lineup, Zulu played a significant role in Richards Bay’s victory over Stellenbosch. He was instrumental defensively, finishing with 16 clearances and winning 12 out of 13 duels.
Full-back: Thabang Matuludi (Polokwane)
Matuludi had an impressive outing in his first start of the season against Chippa United. He created a key chance, made three important passes, and scored the decisive goal in stoppage time, earning the man of the match title.
Central midfielder: Thabang Sibanyoni (Magesi)
Sibanyoni played a pivotal role in Magesi’s first win of the season, scoring one of their two goals against Siwelele. He now has three goals and one assist in 18 appearances this year.
Central midfielder: Ayabulela Kongobe (Chippa United)
Kongobe has improved in the last two matches after a slow start to the season. He provided an assist against Orbit College and scored against Polokwane, earning recognition as Chippa’s standout player despite the team not earning points.
Central midfielder: Tashreeq Matthews (Mamelodi Sundowns)
Matthews has emerged as a key player for Sundowns this season. He was active against Durban City, scoring a goal and providing an assist to Allende, leading all players in assists after seven rounds.
Left winger: Siyabonga Nzama (Richards Bay)
Nzama, who made a name for himself last season, scored his first Premiership goal for Richards Bay against Stellenbosch, playing a significant role in the team’s unexpected victory.
Right winger: Monnapule Saleng (Orbit College)

Centre-forward: Bradley Grobler (Sekhukhune)
Grobler continues to perform well, scoring in three consecutive matches for Sekhukhune. He proved to be a key player against Golden Arrows, scoring a dramatic winner in stoppage time.
Head coach: Miguel Cardoso (Mamelodi Sundowns)
Cardoso has maintained high standards since taking over Sundowns in December. His team remains title contenders, having come back from an early deficit to win 3-1 against Durban City. Young player Kutlwano Lethlaku is increasingly becoming an important part of the starting lineup under his management.
