With Newcastle traveling to Marseille, there has been renewed interest in Mason Greenwood from England. While many in the UK have yet to forgive the young English striker following his domestic abuse case, Roberto De Zerbi publicly defended his player yesterday afternoon. “I don’t intrude on anyone’s private life, not even my children. He’s a good guy; he has paid a very high price for what happened. Very high. He has found the right environment for himself, and support has been extended to him. He has behaved well and has an introverted personality. When I look at him as a person, it makes me sad about what has happened in his life because I know a different person than the one depicted in England.”
Tonight, Samir Nasri also came to Greenwood’s defense during a segment on Canal+. The former midfielder stated that if Greenwood’s wife, who was his victim, has forgiven him, then the public should do the same. “If she has forgiven him… who are we to judge?” he commented, as a journalist from the channel brought up the topic, adding: “It’s about that… If his wife has forgiven him, we can forgive him. If she hadn’t forgiven him and he had been found guilty with that sentence in England, I would have said that’s normal.”
