Samuel Eto’o Re-Elected as President of FECAFOOT: A New Chapter for Cameroonian Football Leadership

The conflict between Samuel Eto’o and the Cameroonian Ministry of Sports is set to continue for some time. The former FC Barcelona legend, who has been the president of FECAFOOT since 2021, ran unopposed for re-election at the helm of the Cameroonian football federation. Thus, it was expected that he would be re-elected for another four years.

Samuel Eto’o received 85 out of 87 votes in what stands as a strong and symbolic endorsement, despite opposition from the Ministry of Sports, which had even called for the cancellation of the general assembly. However, the Ministry of Territorial Administration supported the assembly, indicating an institutional disagreement in Cameroon. Eto’o still has challenges ahead as the Cameroon national team failed to qualify for the upcoming World Cup.
