San Lorenzo and Independiente finished their match in Avellaneda with a 1-1 draw during the ninth round of the Clausura. The result showcased both the strengths and challenges of a team in transition. San Lorenzo took the lead in the 37th minute when Facundo Gulli scored after a quick counterattack against Rodrigo Rey. Independiente equalized in the second half through an own goal by Nicolás Tripichio, following a corner from Santiago Montiel in the 68th minute.

This draw holds significance for San Lorenzo amid an institutional crisis that includes resignations and political issues. Coach Damián Ayude expressed after the match his commitment to keeping the team focused and shielded from off-field concerns. “I need calm for the players. We have a pact with the squad to stay away from politics,” he stated.

Ayude also noted that the team needs improvement in their attacking plays. “We need to shoot more on goal; finishing plays can be tough in Argentine football,” he explained. However, he praised the dedication of his squad, which consists largely of local talent. “Most of the players are San Lorenzo fans themselves, and that’s our strongest asset.”

Despite the challenges, Ayude is clear about his ambitions. “We want to be among the top eight teams. We’re aiming high, regardless of the situation,” he added, mentioning that qualifying for an international competition would be a “dream” for this group. “We can’t take anything for granted; we need to give 120 percent,” he emphasized.

The draw leaves San Lorenzo seeking more stability in the standings, but Ayude remains positive about their prospects. “The institutional atmosphere has been unsettled for some time. The supporters are our greatest strength, along with the players,” he concluded, highlighting the connection with fans as vital to the club’s goals.
