Santos has completed one of its most active transfer windows in recent years, as reported by ge. The team, which is back in Brazil’s Serie A and currently near the relegation zone, added eight new players under sporting director Alexandre Mattos. Four of these signings were confirmed on deadline day: defenders Adonis Frías and Alexis Duarte, midfielder Victor Hugo, and forward Lautaro Díaz.

The defense saw notable changes, with Frías and Duarte coming in after Gil’s exit and uncertainties with Zé Ivaldo. Igor Vinícius and Mayke joined the team on the right side to replace Leo Godoy and Aderlan.

In midfield, Victor Hugo has stepped in for Diego Pituca, while experienced player Willian Arão arrived to add competition with Tomás Rincón and João Schmidt, though he has faced some injury challenges. Up front, Lautaro Díaz was signed on loan to fill the gap left by Luca Meirelles, who was sold to Shakhtar Donetsk for €10 million, and Deivid Washington, who returned to Chelsea.

Santos also secured Paraguayan forward Caballero, who was signed permanently to bring speed and experience to the attack, supporting younger players like Robinho Jr.

This transfer activity was partly funded by the sale of Meirelles and Wesley Patati’s transfer to Dutch football, generating R$15 million through a resale clause. Mattos, who started in June, aimed to revitalize the squad despite financial challenges, providing coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda with additional resources.
