Journalist Kevin Jiménez reports that Deportivo Saprissa is dealing with unexpected news after young midfielder Alberth Barahona was hospitalized on Saturday due to chest pain and dizziness. The 20-year-old from Nicoya was taken to Calderón Guardia Hospital in San José for tests to find out the cause.
The club informed reporter Ferlín Fuentes that Barahona’s health issue occurred just days before Monday’s match against Pérez Zeledón in the Liga Promérica. Saprissa’s sports team stated they are in regular contact with the hospital staff. Thankfully, medical updates show that Barahona is stable and not in immediate danger, although he is still experiencing chest discomfort and lightheadedness.
This season, Barahona has played only 180 minutes across Liga Promérica and the Central American Cup. He participated under coach Paulo Wanchope earlier in the season but has since made just two appearances from the bench under coach Vladimir Quesada. There were growing hopes for him to receive more playing time, especially as Saprissa faces challenges, but his health issue has delayed those prospects.
The situation has impacted the club as Barahona is seen as a promising talent. Upcoming medical assessments will be key in determining his recovery and potential return to play during a crucial period for Saprissa.
