Sergio Ramos has confirmed that he played his last match in Mexico after Rayados de Monterrey was eliminated in the semifinals of the Torneo Apertura. Monterrey lost 3-2 in the second leg against Toluca, following a 1-0 victory in the first leg. Defending champions Toluca advance to the final against Tigres due to their superior position in the regular season standings. Following this defeat, the former Paris Saint-Germain player, whose contract ends this year, is free to sign with any club.
“We are sad, but we can take comfort in knowing we gave everything on the field. We must learn, rise again, and understand that this is part of football. The greatest disappointment is not being able to offer a new final to the supporters, who deserve it the most. Thank you always for your support. Go Monterrey!”, he reacted on social media. Ramos scored his last goal for Rayados by converting a penalty to make it 3-1 in the 58th minute, but his team couldn’t get beyond the 3-2 scoreline, marking his farewell to Mexican football.
