Arne Slot aims for Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Galatasaray to guide their future matches.
Liverpool advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals with a convincing win against the Turkish champions on Wednesday, bouncing back from a first-leg defeat.
This performance marked a significant improvement, with Liverpool showing control throughout the match. Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch, and Mohamed Salah contributed to the decisive victory, setting up a quarter-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
After the match, Slot discussed whether this performance should be a benchmark for upcoming games.
“Yes, but it’s not straightforward to say, ‘If you can do this tonight, you can do this every game.’ There’s an opponent involved, different styles of play, and numerous factors that influence our performance.
“It’s clear, especially for those who follow Liverpool closely, that Anfield and the players can rise to challenges. There have been many times when we’ve shown this, but we often have moments where our intensity drops or the opposing team gains control, which has frequently led to conceding a goal.
“Today, that didn’t happen, as we didn’t concede and maintained our intensity. We hope to perform at this level consistently. However, we now face an early match against Brighton with only two days of rest, which is unrealistic.
“In this busy schedule, more players are getting injured, and we haven’t had enough rest this season.
“Brighton has an intense style, and we aim to perform our best again on Saturday. Still, every match is different; you can’t compare Brighton with Galatasaray or Tottenham with Galatasaray. I hope this is the standard we can achieve, and we’ll see if we can maintain that from now on.”
