Arne Slot expressed satisfaction after Liverpool signed Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes.
The young defender will join Liverpool this summer for a fee of up to £60m. Though he has only played 29 Ligue 1 matches for Rennes, the 20-year-old is considered one of the top defensive talents in Europe.
His signing is significant for Liverpool, especially with uncertainty over Ibrahima Konate’s future, as his contract ends this summer.
Liverpool has outbid Bayern Munich and Chelsea for Jacquet, whom Slot has described as a ‘very big talent’.
“It’s very pleasing because he is a very big talent, and we consider this given his age,” Slot told the media before the match against Manchester City this weekend.
“We weren’t alone in wanting him, which is a compliment to those responsible for signing players. This fits our model at the club: young players, at the start of their careers, who can grow and support us both now and in the future.
“We have recently signed many players like this, and the future looks promising.”
