Arne Slot has commended Dominik Szoboszlai for his impressive performances this season, noting that the Liverpool midfielder has set a strong example on the field.
Szoboszlai continued to shine midweek, netting the first goal in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Marseille in the Champions League. The Hungary international has now scored seven goals across all competitions this season, standing out for the Reds during a mixed campaign.
With Virgil van Dijk approaching his 35th birthday this summer, Szoboszlai is seen as a possible future captain at Anfield, a position he already holds for the national team.
Slot acknowledged Szoboszlai’s growth this season, agreeing that the 25-year-old has taken on a leadership role.
“Dom is indeed having a strong season,” Slot said ahead of the match against Bournemouth this weekend.
“He’s faced a couple of moments recently that aren’t typical for him. Missing a penalty isn’t common, and his mistake against Barnsley was unusual, which he recognized.
“Beyond his goal—helped by one of my coaching staff—he demonstrated his importance both on and off the ball, including a fantastic assist to Hugo Ektike, who sadly hit the post.
“It starts with leading by example, and that’s what he consistently does. His pressing intensity without the ball is remarkable, and he keeps pushing both ways. This season, he’s also become more confident on the ball and involved in the play.”
