Arne Slot has acknowledged that Liverpool is not meeting the expected performance levels ahead of their Premier League match against Sunderland on Wednesday.

The team’s recent form has been mixed, with strong wins against Marseille, Qarabag, and Newcastle United, but also a draw with Burnley and losses to Bournemouth and Manchester City.

Currently sitting sixth in the league, Liverpool faces challenges in qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League, being four points behind Chelsea in fifth place, having secured only one victory in their last five league games.

“A draw feels like a loss at this club,” he said. “This is tough for the players because they know the expectations and they feel disappointed right now.

“We are often close in each match, and it feels like we should win, but it doesn’t happen. That makes it harder than when you play against a superior team and know you can’t match them.

“They believe they can compete with any team in the world, but the reality is we are not performing to Liverpool standards.”
