Arne Slot has stated that Liverpool is getting closer to his vision for the team.
The Premier League champions currently sit seventh in the league after a rocky start, but their recent victories over Inter Milan and Brighton have boosted their confidence.
Following these wins and clean sheets, Slot expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress as they prepare for Saturday’s match against Tottenham.
“Winning provides a positive spirit after many changes this summer. The league is tightly packed, so every win or loss counts,” he mentioned in his pre-match press conference.
“Our focus is to build on the last five matches. We have been solid defensively, creating a strong foundation, and the players are becoming more ready to compete at Premier League levels. I believe there is more to come from us.”
“We are getting closer to the team I envision. There have been ups and downs, which is expected given the summer changes we made intentionally because we felt it was necessary. Adaptation takes time. We’ve encountered some unfortunate refereeing decisions. Even last Saturday, a red card was missed, but it didn’t impact us.”
“In the beginning, we deserved our wins, but the margins are narrow. We need to ensure this team reaches a level where refereeing decisions won’t influence us.”
Ibrahima Konate has not performed at the same level as last season and faces uncertainty as his contract nears expiry next summer. Slot defended him, suggesting he has faced unfortunate circumstances this season.
“For centre-backs, it’s common to be scrutinized when goals are conceded. He has faced some bad luck. We play a low-scoring game, which directly affects results. Lately, he hasn’t been in those critical situations, which is preferable.”
“We are less vulnerable now compared to earlier in the season.”
