Arne Slot is asking for more from Liverpool, even with their 11-game unbeaten streak across all competitions.
Liverpool have bounced back from a difficult period in autumn and haven’t lost since a 4-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven at Anfield in late November. Currently, they sit fourth in the Premier League and have moved ahead in the FA Cup after a match on Monday night.
Despite this success, Slot believes the team can improve further, emphasizing the need to convert draws into wins. The Reds have drawn their last three league matches and five out of eight. They will face Burnley at Anfield tomorrow.
At his pre-match press conference, Slot stated: “Ideally, it’s not 11 games unbeaten; it’s 11 wins in a row. That is what we aim for.
“Aston Villa has had a winning streak, and even though we have improved since conceding four goals against PSV, there is still room to grow. There’s always an opportunity to improve, even when we were leading the Premier League and Champions League this time last year.”
Burnley currently ranks 19th and is eight points from safety. Nevertheless, Slot is cautious, recalling a difficult match at Turf Moor earlier this season.
“We need to remember how we played against them. It was in the 95th minute when we finally got a penalty for a handball, which we had been waiting for. But decisions can vary from match to match.
“A few weeks later, there was a clear handball against Manchester United, and the referee didn’t call it. You never know how those decisions will go.
“In the first match against Burnley, we had several chances but only got the penalty late. They have made it tough for other teams as well. We will be prepared and are looking forward to playing at home, where we want to show our ability to keep possession.”
“We have been working hard on this, and I’m eager for the moment things truly click. When we start generating more chances, we will also need to be a bit more open. At times this season, we have conceded too many counter-attacks, so we need to find the right balance between creating opportunities and minimizing concessions.”
