Arne Slot expressed his discontent with the growing focus on set pieces in the Premier League.
Liverpool has been the top team for set-piece goals since the start of the year, a significant change from their poor performance earlier in the season, where they ranked last until December 31.
In their recent 5-2 victory against West Ham, Liverpool scored multiple goals from set pieces, highlighting their increasing significance in the league.
Arsenal tops the table in set-piece goals as well, having scored twice from corners in their 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday. They have tied the record for the most corner goals in a single Premier League season, hitting 16.
Ahead of their match against Wolves on Tuesday, Slot recognized the role of set pieces but shared that he doesn’t favor this style of play.
“Do I like it? My football heart doesn’t like it,” Slot mentioned at his pre-match press conference.
“When I think about football, I picture the Barcelona team from 10-15 years ago. It’s less enjoyable to watch now, but it remains competitive.”
