Son Heung-min made a strong impact in Major League Soccer, scoring his first hat-trick in LAFC’s convincing victory over Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, as reported by The Athletic. The South Korean forward joined LAFC in August after a decade in the Premier League and has quickly added five goals in six matches, becoming a key player for the team.
Son started the scoring just three minutes into the game, taking a pass from Timothy Tillman and finishing past Rafael Cabral. He netted his second goal in the 16th minute with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, assisted by Ryan Hollingshead. Later in the match, Denis Bouanga initiated a counterattack and set up Son for his third goal, completing the hat-trick and highlighting their growing partnership.
Bouanga also scored in the 88th minute, making him LAFC’s all-time leading scorer with 94 goals, surpassing Carlos Vela. This win pushed Steve Cherundolo’s team into fourth place in the Western Conference with six matches remaining in the regular season.
Son’s performance showcased his quick adaptation to MLS, and his connection with Bouanga has revitalized LAFC’s offensive play, bringing optimism after last season’s playoff exit. “The atmosphere is amazing, I feel very comfortable with my teammates, and I just want to keep contributing,” Son mentioned after the match.
In addition to his club success, Son also shone during South Korea’s recent friendly victory against the United States, maintaining his high level of play after his time at Tottenham.
