Son Heung-Min Readies for Home Debut as LAFC Faces San Diego FC

Son Heung-Min will make his highly anticipated home debut for LAFC on Sunday at BMO Stadium. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, the South Korean star, who joined for over $26 million this summer, will face the new team San Diego FC, who have surprised many by securing a playoff spot as leaders of the Western Conference.

In his first three road games, Son has already made a mark—drawing a penalty against Chicago, assisting in a game against the Revolution, and scoring a stunning free kick at Dallas. With strong support from LAFC fans, the team hopes he can deliver the boost needed to secure a top-four finish and home-field advantage in the playoffs.

San Diego, led by coach Mikey Varas, has emerged as a surprising contender this season. They have earned 52 points from 28 matches and have defeated all California teams, including the Galaxy, San Jose, and LAFC. Key players like Hirving Lozano, Anders Dreyer, and Jeppe Tverskov have been pivotal to the expansion team’s success.

LAFC currently holds fifth place with 41 points from 25 games.
