The Seattle Sounders have re-signed goalkeeper Stefan Frei for his 13th season. The 39-year-old free agent has agreed to a contract that lasts until June 2027.
Since joining Seattle in 2014, Frei has recorded 134 clean sheets in 422 matches across all competitions.
In the 2025 MLS regular season, he achieved eight shutouts in 26 starts.
Sounders general manager Craig Waibel praised Frei, stating, “He is a Sounders legend who has been at the heart of some of the biggest moments in our history. His leadership and professionalism set a high standard.”
Waibel added, “Stef understands what it means to wear this badge and brings a presence that lifts the entire group. We’re proud to keep him in Seattle and look forward to his contributions.”
Including his previous stint with Toronto FC from 2011 to 2013, Frei is unique in having won an MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield, US Open Cup, Canadian Championship, CONCACAF Champions Cup, and Leagues Cup.
