As North America’s World Cup approaches in just over six months, Spain begins the new year as FIFA’s top-ranked team. The United States and Mexico are closely positioned in the rankings, with the U.S. at No. 14 and Mexico at No. 15. Canada stands at No. 27.
All three host nations will feature in FIFA World Cup matches this summer. Mexico opens the tournament on June 11 against South Africa, ranked No. 61, in Mexico City. The U.S. faces Paraguay, ranked No. 39, on June 12 in Los Angeles, while Canada will start its journey against a yet-to-be-determined opponent in Toronto on the same day.
Argentina, the current World Cup champions, is ranked No. 2, followed by runner-up France at No. 3. England and Brazil round out the top five, and Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia complete the top ten, maintaining the same positions as November.
Morocco is generating interest as it readies for the World Cup, coming in just outside the top ten.
FIFA’s next ranking update will be released on January 18.
