Spain vs Netherlands Preview, Lineups and Prediction, March 24, 2025

Spain will take on the Netherlands in the second leg of the 2024/2025 UEFA Nations League quarter-finals at the Mestalla Stadium. The match between Spain and the Netherlands is scheduled to kick off at 01.15 am IST on Monday 24 March 2025. The teams played out a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Rotterdam.

Spain opened the scoring in the 9th minute through Nico Williams, assisted by Pedri, but the Netherlands responded with goals from Cody Gakpo in the 28th minute and Tijjani Reijnders in the 46th minute, both assisted by Justin Kluivert and Jeremie Frimpong. Spain finally equalised in the 90th minute thanks to a goal from Mikel Merino, who came on in the 84th minute. The Netherlands were reduced to ten men after Jorrel Hato was shown a straight red card in the 81st minute with the Netherlands leading 2-1. Spain made the most of their numerical advantage to score a late equaliser.

In this match, Spain dominated almost every aspect of the game, including possession (60% to the Netherlands’ 40%), shots (15-10) and shots on target (6-4). However, they were unable to convert all these advantages into victory and came close to defeat.

If Spain can produce a similar performance at the Mestalla, while improving their defensive solidity and taking their chances more effectively, they have a good chance of winning and booking their place in the semi-finals. Spain have a good record at home, having won their last four UEFA Nations League games.

In those four matches they beat Italy 2-1, Denmark 1-0, Serbia 3-0 and Switzerland 3-2. The Netherlands, on the other hand, have struggled in their last three away matches in the competition, drawing 1-1 with Hungary, losing 1-0 to Germany and drawing 1-1 with Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Predicted Starting XI Netherlands vs Spain

Spain (4-3-3) : Simon; Porro, Le Normand, Cubarsi, Cucurella; Ruiz, Zubimendi, Pedri; Yamal, Morata, Nico Williams.

Netherlands (4-2-3-1) : Verbruggen; Frimpong, De Ligt, Van Dijk, J. Timber; Gravenberch, De Jong, Reijnders; Simons, Brobbey, Gakpo.
