Marcel Hartel scored a stunning long-distance goal in the second half as St. Louis City secured their first win of the season, defeating the New England Revolution 3-1 on Saturday.

Simon Becher and Chris Durkin also found the net as St. Louis (1-3-1, 4 points) overcame an early setback to claim their first victory under new coach Yoann Damet.

Hartel’s goal came in the 83rd minute when he intercepted a poor clearance from the Revs and fired a shot from about 40 yards, sending the ball over New England keeper Matt Turner, who was out of position.

Ilay Feingold opened the scoring for New England (1-3-0, 3 points) in the 14th minute, following a 6-1 win over FC Cincinnati, which tied a team record for goals in an MLS match.

Though the Revs took an early lead, they then conceded three consecutive goals to a St. Louis side that had only scored once prior to this match.

New England held 54.7% possession but managed just two shots on target.

Feingold scored in the 14th minute after Luca Langoni delivered a pass from the left side across the box, allowing Feingold to finish with his right foot in the top right corner.

St. Louis responded in the 29th minute when New England failed to clear the ball properly. Daniel Edelman took advantage and passed to Becher at the edge of the box, who then shot left-footed into the top right corner to level the score at 1-1.

Just before halftime, St. Louis took a 2-1 lead with a corner kick from Rafael Santos that floated over the defenders, landing at Durkin’s feet in the center of the box. Durkin struck a high shot under the crossbar, securing the lead for St. Louis City.

Turner, who was called up to the U.S. national team earlier this week, made three saves for New England, while Roman Burki had one save for St. Louis.
