Stuck in Tehran, Taremi misses Inter’s Club World Cup

Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi is reportedly set to miss Inter Milan’s defence of their 2025 Club World Cup title due to being caught up in the war between Iran and Israel in Tehran.

According to a report in The Guardian on Sunday, Taremi will certainly be unable to join his teammates in the United States due to the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.

The 32-year-old player was already late to join the Inter squad as he had to play for the Iranian national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Asia.

He last scored a goal when Iran successfully defeated North Korea 3-0 in Tehran on Tuesday (6 June).

The day after, Inter flew from Italy to the US to prepare for the 2025 Club World Cup. Christian Chivu’s team will begin competing on Wednesday (18 June).

Mehdi Taremi will certainly be absent when Inter Milan play Monterrey at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. He is also expected to miss the subsequent matches in the 2025 Club World Cup.

Then, on Friday (13 June), the Iran-Israel war broke out. Both countries responded by launching missile attacks, destroying buildings.

As a result, all flights were postponed and the airport was closed, meaning Mehdi Taremi could not join the Inter Milan squad at the 2025 Club World Cup.
