Sunderland may lose Robin Roefs and Noah Sadiki this summer to meet financial needs.

The club spent £155 million on 14 new players last summer after being promoted, and the new team has performed well in the Premier League.

Sunderland currently sits 12th in the standings, safe from relegation, reflecting the success of their investment. However, financial regulations may require them to sell players, as several of their stars are attracting interest from other Premier League teams.

Roefs and Sadiki have been linked with clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United, potentially earning Sunderland a significant profit after being signed for lower fees last summer.

Journalist Nick Barnes mentioned that it wouldn’t be surprising if both players leave at the end of the season.

“I think they have to sell,” Barnes told BBC Tyne and Wear. “The values of players have increased, and Roefs and Sadiki are among them. They will likely need to sell someone, which is part of Sunderland’s strategy. They can gain substantial money from one or two, possibly three players this summer. Plus, they will remain in the Premier League next season. The funds from player sales can be reinvested into bringing in new talent that could also increase in value.

“Melker Ellborg is coming in with a strong reputation. From what we’ve heard from sources in Sweden, he could step in if Roefs departs. It wouldn’t be shocking if Roefs, Sadiki, and possibly one more player leave this summer.”
