In the past year, Manchester United has been connected with two prominent Swedish attackers, with another set to join the club soon.
Since Ruben Amorim took charge at Old Trafford, United has been linked with Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres.
Gyokeres’ impressive performances under Amorim in Portugal led many to believe a transfer was likely, but it did not happen.
The two faced each other in the Premier League on the opening day of this season, but as opponents, since Gyokeres signed with Arsenal over the summer.
After his move to London, another Swedish striker emerged on United’s radar: Alexander Isak.
The 26-year-old became available after an issue with Newcastle United prompted him to seek a new club.
However, United’s interest was brief as Isak’s move to Liverpool seemed nearly finalized.
Now, SportsBladet reports that United is nearing a deal for a Swedish striker but for the Women’s team instead.
Ellen Wangerheim has been performing well for Hammarby and played a key role in their historic double two seasons ago.
Discussions for her transfer to United have been ongoing, with an agreement expected soon.
Wangerheim will join several Swedish stars already in the United Women’s squad, including Julia Zigiotti Olme, Fridolina Rolfö, and Anna Sandberg, with Hanna Lundkvist joining this month.
