Manchester United has announced another management change with the sacking of Ruben Amorim as manager this morning.
Amorim, the former Sporting CP leader, is now the sixth permanent manager at United since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, highlighting the club’s continuing instability.
In the meantime, a caretaker manager will be chosen to finish the season until a seventh permanent manager is named.
The identity of the caretaker is not yet known, but reactions to Amorim’s dismissal are already emerging.
Reports from Portugal suggest that what was expected to be a successful appointment turned sour for Amorim.
According to Manchester Evening News, former United player Alejandro Garnacho has reacted to the news of his ex-manager’s firing.
Garnacho’s tenure at Old Trafford ended under Amorim after a public disagreement following last season’s Europa League final.
United lost that final to Tottenham Hotspur, which resulted in their exit from European competitions after a 1-0 defeat.
After the match, Garnacho publicly questioned why he was not included in the starting lineup.
Consequently, Garnacho found himself on the “bomb squad” and was ultimately sold to Chelsea, leaving little goodwill between him and Amorim.
It is telling that Garnacho reacted to the news by liking Fabrizio Romano’s post about Amorim’s firing.
This small gesture reflects the strained relationship between them, which led to Garnacho’s sale.
Amorim’s time at United was also challenging for other academy players, with Garnacho sold, Marcus Rashford considering a move away, and Kobbie Mainoo expressing a desire to leave.
However, Mainoo’s prospects may now change, as Darren Fletcher is set to take charge for the next match against Burnley.
