Tebas’s Serious Allegations Against Real Madrid: Unveiling the Controversies

Real Madrid recently secured a victory in the Spanish Supreme Court, which annulled the Additional Provision Two of LaLiga’s statutes from 2015, deemed unlawful. This ruling mandates a return to the original distribution of TV revenue for the 2015-2016 season: 60% for first division clubs and 40% for those in the second division, with equal sharing within each category. Real Madrid claims it is entitled to receive €8.8 million that was “illegitimately withheld,” while nearly €88 million should be distributed among second division clubs. The Madrid club expressed satisfaction with the decision, which it believes once again supports their position and restores legality and transparency in revenue distribution.

The president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, strongly responded to the claims made by Real Madrid. “Neither €8.8 million for Real Madrid nor €88 million for some second-place clubs,” he stated on X, before emphasizing that the ruling did not authorize those amounts. He criticized the club for “forgetting” the meetings and boards from 2015 and 2016 where the settlements were approved, calling it an ongoing misinformation campaign: “It’s hard to invent as many things as Real Madrid has.” Tebas also mentioned the constant format changes and the pressure tactics employed by the club.
