Lionel Messi, a living legend at 38, is celebrated worldwide, including in India. A 21-meter tall iron statue of the famous footballer has been erected in Kolkata, taking 40 days to complete. The statue will be inaugurated on Saturday to mark Messi’s three-day visit to the country.
Messi will be joined by his friends Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul for a ceremony where he is expected to be showcased in traditional Bengali attire. However, early viewers of the statue have expressed disappointment, with some stating it looks “failed,” according to Daily Mail. One fan remarked, “It doesn’t even look like Messi,” while another questioned, “Why does he look like Cristiano Ronaldo?” It remains to be seen how Messi, currently with Inter Miami, will react to the statue.
