Kannur: In the Amul-sponsored sports.com Super League Kerala, the match between Kannur Warriors FC and Malappuram FC ended in a 2-2 draw. The game was interrupted for more than an hour due to heavy rain. For Kannur, Muhammed Sinan and Nidhal Sayed scored the goals, while Abdul Hakku and Aitor Alde scored for Malappuram. After seven rounds, both Kannur and Malappuram have 10 points each. Malappuram is in third place based on goal difference, with Kannur in fifth.
At the Jawahar Municipal Stadium, in the seventh minute, a corner kick by Malappuram’s Elhousseini was headed just wide by Abdul Hakku. In the 24th minute, Kannur’s captain Luv Samba received a yellow card for a foul on Elhousseini. Shortly after, Malappuram’s under-23 player Rishad Gafoor missed a significant scoring opportunity.
Kannur scored in the 32nd minute. Asier Gomes passed the ball to Karim Samb on the right wing, who crossed it towards the goal. Youngster Muhammed Sinan headed the ball into the net to give his team the lead (1-0). Kannur’s Vikas also received a yellow card. In the 42nd minute, Malappuram equalized. Abdul Hakku scored from an Elhousseini corner (1-1), marking his second goal of the season.
The second half began amidst heavy rain and wind. Malappuram scored within three minutes. A cross from Elhousseini was headed in by captain Aitor Alde (1-2). Soon after, the referee, Venkatesh, had to temporarily stop the match as the ground became waterlogged due to the intense rain.
The game resumed after a delay of over an hour. Both teams found it difficult to move the ball on the wet field. After the restart, Karim Samb had two good chances but was unable to get past Malappuram’s goalkeeper Ashhar. In the 67th minute, Kannur scored the equalizer. From a corner kick, Luv Samba passed the ball to substitute Nidhal Sayed, who found the net (2-2). The match was attended by 17,899 spectators.
On Friday (November 21), in the first match of the eighth round, Thrissur Magic FC will play against Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC. The match will kick off at 7:30 PM at the Thrissur Corporation Stadium.
