Following FC Metz’s home defeat to Rennes in the opening match of the 14th round of Ligue 1 (1-0), Stéphane Le Mignan addressed the situation surrounding Koffi Kouao. The Metz defender was unhappy about not being in the starting lineup and had refused to participate in the warm-up, which could have sparked controversy.
The Metz coach played down the incident, explaining his decision and reaffirming his faith in the player. “I decided not to play him because he has featured in all matches since the beginning of the season and had good performances. Last week, I was a bit less satisfied. I felt he was not the best fit for our game plan, both defensively and offensively. There is no issue with Koffi. He is understandably disappointed. He has always played. He will move forward; there is no problem with that,” he stated in an interview with Ligue 1+.
