Igor Thiago has emerged as a key player in the Premier League this season, netting 14 goals for Brentford.
Thiago has stepped up to fill the gap left by Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo, bouncing back strongly after an injury-plagued debut season.
In Sunday’s match against Everton, he scored a hat-trick, contributing to a 4-2 victory. He is currently second in the league for goals this season, with an average of one goal every 119 minutes.
The Brazilian is also in the running for his first international call-up ahead of the March fixtures. He is close to breaking a record, needing just one more goal to tie the Premier League record for most goals in a single season by a Brazilian player.
That record of 15 goals is shared by three players. Roberto Firmino first achieved this with 15 goals for Liverpool in the 2017/18 season.
In the 2022/23 season, Arsenal‘s Gabriel Martinelli matched Firmino’s total, and Matheus Cunha tied it last season while at Wolves, doing so in the fewest games with only 33 appearances.
Thiago needs just two more goals to break the record, a notable feat considering the talented Brazilian players in English football.
