Things are Getting Worse for Anthony Martial!

The situation around Anthony Martial is becoming increasingly tense. As previously reported, his arrival at Monterrey’s Rayados earlier this month was met with excitement. The 29-year-old French striker, under contract until 2027, was anticipated to be a key offensive player. However, fans are becoming disillusioned as it has been a few weeks without any goals from Martial. Despite the pressure, he has received support from his teammate Oliver Torres, who joined Monterrey last year after stints at Sevilla FC, Porto, and Atlético Madrid.

“People obviously expect immediate results, and whether or not you score can often come down to luck, which changes perceptions. Regardless of whether I scored a goal in Tijuana, the main thing is to be patient while adapting. He’s getting used to his new environment, his family is moving in, and he needs the stability of his home. From there, he’s a great player who will contribute a lot. His teammates are helping him adjust, and I’m confident he will meet expectations as he is very talented,” Torres defended in a local interview with TUDN.

Fans Growing Impatient

Unfortunately for Martial, Torres’ comments came before a match against UNAM Pumas, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Martial did not score and was substituted at halftime. “Martial has stalled Monterrey. The team has only won once in the last five matches since his arrival. The only win was against Santos Laguna, and it was by a narrow margin at home,” noted AS Mexique. Local media continue to criticize Martial, questioning coach Domenec Torrent’s decision to persist with a player who has gone 229 minutes without scoring.

“Anthony Martial started as a striker and had some good chances for counterattacks. He also needs to learn his teammates’ movements, and he’ll show that in time. As previously mentioned, we hope he can reach peak form for the final phase,” said Jordi Guerrero, one of Torrent’s assistants, defending Martial. However, many remain unconvinced. “The Rayados let him go and now he scores more than Anthony Martial. Torrent might regret it,” quipped TV Azteca, referencing Ali Avila (22), a youth product who was loaned out unsuccessfully and is now with Querétaro, having scored 4 goals in 6 matches—more than both Martial and Roberto de la Rosa, who are still at zero. Monterrey did manage to win 4-2 against Juárez on October 22. However, Martial only played 20 minutes and remains without a goal.
