Dortmund Secures Star Player’s Future with Permanent Deal

The permanent acquisition of the England U20 international to Dortmund was confirmed this summer. Following his medical examination, Chukwuemeka was formally unveiled as a BVB player, signing a fresh five-year deal.

According to reports, the final transfer agreement for the Bundesliga newcomer amounts to $26.7 million, inclusive of add-ons.

Dortmund had long expressed their desire to retain the player, who showcased impressive form during crucial moments last season, but hesitated to activate the $32 million buy-out clause stipulated in his loan contract.

After spending much of the summer negotiating a new loan arrangement, Dortmund ultimately agreed to permanently sign Chukwuemeka for $5.34 million less.

“Carney demonstrated his exceptional potential for us during the second half of the season,” stated BVB Sporting Director, Sebastian Kehl, in an official club release.

“He possesses the ability to make a difference by consistently finding solutions in tight spaces, providing us with an additional element in midfield which is highly beneficial,” he added.

“It was important for us to enhance the quality and creativity in our attacking midfield positions,” remarked Kehl’s colleague at BvB, Lars Ricken.

Furthermore, Die Borussen managed to secure Chukwuemeka on a long-term contract, enabling them to work directly on developing his game on the field.

Chukwuemeka himself expressed his delight with his new status at Signal Iduna Park. He even admitted to being very happy to be an integral part of Dortmund now.

“I have come to know the club, the coach, my teammates, and the fans over the past few months. I am delighted that Borussia Dortmund is now my new home for developing my football career,” said the 21-year-old.

The Aston Villa academy graduate joined Chelsea in August 2022. With the West London team, Chukwuemeka also signed a long-term contract lasting six years.

He scored his first goal for the Chelsea senior team on August 20, 2023, in a 3-1 defeat to West Ham United. Unfortunately, he was substituted due to a knee injury during the same match.
