According to reports from mainstream media outlets such as The Athletic on Sunday, former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is on the verge of joining Spanish league club Villarreal.
The Ghanaian has undergone a medical and agreed a two-year contract with the club, which will keep him there until 2027.
He is a free agent after his Arsenal contract expired last June.
VillaVillarrealrreal is his first choice because the club, nicknamed El Submarino Amarillo, will be playing in the Champions League next season.
Previously, it was reported that Partey was exploring the possibility of extending his stay at the Emirates Stadium, but negotiations failed to reach an agreement.
On 4 July, Partey was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
He denies all charges and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court next Tuesday.
The case has been under investigation since February 2022, but Partey remained with Arsenal until the end of the season.
During the 2023/24 season, he appeared in 52 matches for the Gunners in all competitions.
Since joining Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020 for a transfer fee of €50 million (£43 million), he has made a total of 167 appearances and scored nine goals.
Villarreal have not yet officially announced Partey’s arrival, but an announcement is expected soon.
