Several of Liverpool’s 2025 signings are struggling, and the club hopes these new players will avoid the issues experienced by past arrivals.

Alexander Isak has faced criticism for his performance this season, managing to score just once in the Premier League since his transfer from Newcastle United.

Arne Slot has been encouraged to try Isak in a different position, but it remains unclear if this change will improve his game.

If Isak does not improve soon, he might be remembered as one of the club’s less successful signings.

Anfield fans are hoping this won’t be the case. However, if it happens, Isak might relate to Joe Cole’s thoughts about his own time at Liverpool.

Cole joined Liverpool in 2010 from Chelsea after winning his third Premier League title, but his time there did not go as expected.

He was released in January 2013 after 42 appearances, and the BBC reported that he received a £3 million severance payout.

Looking back, Cole has expressed regret over his choice to join Liverpool.

In an interview with LIFEJACKET, he said, “If I could do it again, I’d probably go abroad and experience something different. I loved that when I had the chance. I was genuinely excited about joining Liverpool, but the timing was tough.”

Isak is still trying to find his rhythm at Liverpool. Although there’s time for improvement, Hugo Ekitike’s strong performances this season are making it challenging for Isak to regain his place.

Ekitike has already netted ten goals this season, and Cole believes he may have a more successful time at Liverpool than Isak.

Back in October, Cole commented, “Ekitike will outperform Isak over the next two years. Isak struggles with injuries and is not consistently available for matches. After being sidelined, he has little time to get back into form before he’s expected to score again.”
