Liverpool 4 – 3 Newcastle, April 1996
This match is a well-known choice for its drama. Newcastle had lost a significant lead in the title race, and needed a win at Anfield.
They entered the game with a 12-point lead that was now in jeopardy, making it crucial for their title hopes.
The match started fast, with Robbie Fowler scoring for Liverpool, quickly answered by Les Ferdinand and then David Ginola putting Newcastle ahead.
Fowler equalized, but then Faustino Asprilla put Newcastle back in front.
Asprilla’s arrival had disrupted Newcastle’s previous momentum, but the game swung once again when Stan Collymore equalized.

Fowler’s late winning goal sealed another frustrating defeat for Newcastle fans.
Newcastle 1 – 4 Liverpool, August 1998
This match featured a hat-trick from Michael Owen, who shone at the World Cup earlier that summer.
Despite Ruud Gullit’s appointment as Newcastle manager, his team struggled, allowing Owen to dominate the game.
Owen scored his hat-trick by the 32nd minute, while Patrick Berger added another, ending the half at 4-1.
