Tottenham Hotspur is facing a crucial decision in their search for a new manager.
Thomas Frank has been dismissed following a poor run without victories, spending only eight months with the club. The former Brentford manager struggled to achieve consistent results, leading Spurs to part ways with him as they aim to avoid relegation.
Bookmakers have already listed several potential candidates, with some unexpected names among them.
John Heitinga is currently the frontrunner, having joined Spurs as an assistant last month. The Dutch coach was part of the team that helped Arne Slot win a title at Liverpool last season but had a brief stint as Ajax’s head coach earlier this year.
Roberto De Zerbi, who just left Marseille before Frank’s exit, is also a strong contender. The former Brighton manager was praised by Pep Guardiola as “one of the most influential managers in the last 20 years.”
Mauricio Pochettino remains a possibility, though he has prior commitments. He will lead the United States during the home World Cup this summer and is unlikely to leave before that tournament ends. Spurs may consider appointing a caretaker manager to stabilize the team before pursuing Pochettino later.
Another name in the mix is Robbie Keane. The former Spurs striker has established a solid coaching reputation, winning league titles with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hungary’s Ferencváros.
